Watch Out: What Robot Hoover Is Taking Over And What Can We Do About It

The Best Robot Hoover

The best robot vacuum can clean and vacuum your floors without your involvement. It also leaves the floors spotless. Its surprisingly affordable price and features that are high-end (such as dirt detection) are a plus.

Make sure you regularly examine the brushes of your robot for hair tangled and large particles and wash them if needed. Some models can also automatically empty their onboard dust bin into a larger bin in the base, which decreases the amount of fine dust released into the air.

1. Roomba Q5 pro

The Q5 Pro, and its more expensive cousin, the Q7 Max Series are among the most powerful robotic vacuums we've examined. They are equipped with motors that are top of the quality and can suction up to 5,500 Pascals. As with other top iRobot models (including the top-rated model) they utilize smart mapping technology to create detailed floor plans and avoid common obstacles like cords and furniture legs. They also feature carpet boost, a feature that boosts the robot's performance when it spots the presence of dirt on the carpet, allowing it cleaned quickly.

Both the Q5 and the Q7 Max Series get very high scores on our tests on floors that are bare and are particularly effective at cleaning pet hair. There are some issues however, which prevent them from being our top option. One of them is that the Q5's navigation doesn't have AI-powered obstacle avoidance, so it's prone to getting hung up on socks and shoes and couldn't navigate tight spaces very efficiently in our tests. It also doesn't come with an image sensor that lets it see the corners of the room.

Still, it's very good for those who want to save money on an iRobot Roomba and you have a bare-floored home or office. Additionally,  cheap robot vacuum cleaner  and you can use it when you're at work or at school. It doesn't have the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming that is offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective when it comes to mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick well and aren't able to deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 does have an auto-emptying dock, however. If you need to, the mopping pad can be changed for one that is wet in just a few minutes.

2. iRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming into an elegant, compact package. Its intelligent cleaning maps and fluid navigation make it simple to clean and effective in tackling larger particles such as pet hair. It also comes with an impressive suction system and self-emptying bin. It's the best robotic hoover for carpets, but it's not as good as other hoovers in terms of deep cleaning.

This high-performing mop and vacuum combination makes use of advanced sensors to avoid obstacles and pet waste and it will learn your home's layout over time to provide more efficient cleaning. The app allows you to modify zones and alter the cleaning schedule. It has a battery life that is comparable to other models.

You can instruct the X30 Ultra to remove its mop and extend them when it's in a room with carpet to prevent cross-contamination. The flex arm can be used to reach beneath low-lying furnishings and along baseboards. However, it's not equipped with the same level of washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

In the course of testing, X30 Ultra was the most efficient robot vacuum/mop which could sweep the entire house with just 66 percent of its battery remaining. It also did an excellent job of cleaning a mix of floors and rooms with different flooring types, including certain area rug. Its obstacle detection was superb, and it avoided fake dog turds, socks, shoes and bundles cables.

It's more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but has superior suction and an onboard bin that automatically empties into the base. It also supports voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It is able to clean floors even after it vacuums. This is a feature we haven't seen on other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. iRobot Roomba X40

The robot vacuum and mop combination has a sleek, circular design that looks much like a Roomba model than the boxy units of the competitors. It is one of our most appealing looking robot vacuums. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also the most intelligent. It features advanced features such as enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).

It's the only robotic mop or vacuum to score 100% in our tests, thanks to a combination of high-tech sensors, which include cameras, a structured lighting system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot we tested that can completely self-refill and empty its base station and it has an its own self-cleaning mop pads.

The X40, like other iRobot products, is easy to operate. It has a simple mobile app interface that is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that it's an eerily noisy device that could be an issue if you use it in the morning before work or at night as you try to sleep.

It's also a bit expensive, though it's not as pricey as Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra Both of which are similarly capable and more attractive. If you're willing to live with a little more noise and a little more cost this is a efficient two-in-one device that should delight most.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop, with many advanced features to help you forget about your chores. Like Ecovacs' range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that can take care of both vacuuming and mopping, with a multi-function dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank, and cleans and dry its mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of LIDAR and structured lighting to create floorplans and identify obstacles. It can navigate more efficiently than its top competitors. It also comes with a front-mounted camera for real-time hazards detection, though this wasn't foolproof in our tests and was sometimes confused with power cords or obstructions.

The vacuum cleaner has a maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to accomplish the task. It also comes with "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates how hard the vac works and alters the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home depending on the degree of dirt they are.

For larger homes it's worth looking for one with spot or zone cleaning modes that allow you to tell the robot to clean a particular area of your home via the app or voice commands. A stairway mode is beneficial if you have large furniture. Finally, a recharge and resume function that allows your robot vacuum to take over exactly where it left off is great for busy families.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is a smarter cleaner than you would expect from its price tag. It is a good vacuum cleaner, picking up 55% debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with one pad and a reciprocating movement which is cleaner than the majority of the mop cleaners with robots that we've examined. It's self-sufficient too, with a full-featured app and an auto-emptying, washable base.

The well-designed iRobot app guides you through a mapping session that collects data about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you mark on the map. It can be used to design cleaning schedules or set up an automatic spot-clean. You can also use it to prioritize your dirtiest areas for greater efficiency. The app also provides access to a variety of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.

It also has the ability to reach corners and under furniture more easily because its shape is more rectangular. It also has a powerful 8000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs for pet hair. You can also organize a spot-cleaner that thoroughly cleans an area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker, cheaper alternative to iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras look like cute eyes. It is capable of vacuuming, but is more prone to get caught on low thresholds and is noisier than the other top robot vacuums we've examined. It also has an app that's less intuitive and a small base station that can't double as a bin for emptying.
