Both the Q5 and Q7 Max Series get very high scores on our floor tests that test for bare floors and are particularly effective in cleaning pet hair. However, they do have several flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. One of the flaws of the Q5 is that its navigation system doesn't have AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's therefore prone to become stuck on socks and shoes, and it couldn't navigate through rooms with a lot of people well in our tests. robot vacuums cheap doesn't also have a camera to see around corners.
It's still a great option to consider, particularly if you're looking to save money on a iRobot Roomba and you have a mostly unfinished home or office. It's also extremely quiet and operates when you're at work or at school. The only thing it lacks that you can't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on floors that aren't clean. And it's less effective at mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes that don't stay on very well and can't deal with dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with an auto-emptying dock, however. And, if you have to, you can switch the mopping pad to dry ones in a matter of minutes.
2. IRobot Roomba X30
The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact sleek and stylish vacuum cleaner that can mop floors. Its smart cleaning maps and nimble navigation make it easy to clean and effective in tackling larger particles such as pet hair. It also comes with self-emptying dustbins as well as powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot hoover for carpets but it falls behind some competitors when it comes to deep cleaning.

It's more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however, it comes with superior suction, an onboard dustbin that automatically emptys into its base, and supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can clean the floor even after it has vacuumed. This is a feature we haven't seen before on other robotic vacuum/mop combos.
3. IRobot Roomba X40
With a sleek circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba than the competition's boxes This robot vacuum and mop combo is one of the most attractive designs in our evaluations. The latest model from iRobot is also among its most advanced. It features advanced features such as enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company's robot that can wash mop pads on its own).
It's the only robotic mop or vacuum that scored an exemplary 10/10 in our evaluations due to a mix of high-tech sensors, including cameras, a structured light system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation on its own. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mops.
The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is easy to use. It has a simple mobile application interface and is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only issue is that the X40 is still a loud unit. This can be a problem in the mornings before work, or in the evening when you are trying to sleep.
It's also a bit costly, but not as expensive as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or Roborock S8 Omni, which are equally capable and better looking. This is a two-in-one vacuum that is very efficient, but it's more expensive and produce more noise.
4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is the top-of-the best robot vacuum and mop. It has a range of advanced features that will help you forget your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning device, similar to Ecovacs top-of-the-line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It features a multi-functional dock that can automatically emptys the vacuum's bin and fills up the water tank, and washes and dry the mop pads.
The smart robot uses LIDAR and structured lighting to draw out floor plans and detect obstacles. It is more efficient in its navigation than its top competitors. It also has a front mounted camera that can detect hazards in real-time but this wasn't foolproof in our tests and was sometimes confused with power cords or obstructions.
Its vacuum cleaner has the capacity to suction up to 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to complete the task. It also has an attribute called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the vacuum's power and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas in the house depending on how dirty the areas tend to be.
For larger houses, it's worth opting for models with spot or zone cleaning modes that allow you to instruct the robot to clean one specific area of your home using the app or voice controls. A stairway mode is useful if you have a number of furniture. Also, a recharge and resume feature that lets your robot vacuum pick up right where it left off is ideal for busy families.
5. iRobot Roomba RX3
The RX3 is a cleaner with more intelligence than you'd imagine from its price. It is a good vacuum cleaner and picked up 55% debris in our tests. (It was second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with a single pad and a reciprocating movement that is more efficient than most of the robot mop cleaners that we've tested. It's also highly self-sufficient, with a full-featured app and a self emptying, washable base.
The well-designed iRobot app guides you through a mapping exercise that collects information about your floorplan and any "no-go" areas you set on the map. You can use it to create cleaning schedules, arrange an area for cleaning or to prioritize your most filthy rooms to improve performance. The app has a range of options, including seasonal suggestions, customized mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.
It is also able to reach corners and under furniture more easily because its shape is more rectangular. It also has a strong suction of 8,000 Pascal suction and combs with intelligent technology for hair of pets. You can also set up a spot cleaning that scours a specific area.
The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek, cheaper alternative to iRobot Roomba. It's more appealing, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras appear like cute eyes. It does a good job vacuuming but is more prone to get caught on low thresholds and is louder than the other top robot vacuums we've examined. It also has an app that is less intuitive and has a tiny base station that can't double as a bin for emptying.
